Jason Martin channels a minimal approach to painting through an expansive yet controlled use of colour, brush and medium. Working in pigment, oil paint and cast metal, Martin interrogates the fundamentals of painting, veering from epic and luscious compositions of swirling forms to pared-down and muted abstractions in precisely blended tones. Martin’s sensual, three dimensional paintings bow to Abstract Expressionism with their obvious focus on process and intensely expressive gestures.
Jason Martin (b. 1970, Jersey, UK) lives and works in London and Comporta. Recent solo exhibitions were held at Tang Contemporary Art, Hong Kong (2024); Galerie Forsblom, Helsinki (2024); Wetterling Gallery, Stockholm (2023); Galleria Christian Stein, Milan (2023); Buchmann Galerie, Berlin (2023); Thaddaeus Ropac, Seoul (2022); Wetterling Gallery, Stockholm (2022); Lisson Gallery, New York (2022); Mimmo Scognamiglio, Milan (2021); Buchmann Galerie, Berlin (2020) and Lisson Gallery, East Hampton (2020).
